Why should you attend? Well, if it is anything like last year’s program, you will have an awesome experience. This is one of two yearly events in our high school youth program where you get to join fellow young Christians in an environment designed for fun, fellowship and spiritual growth. The other event is Workcamp. In fact, Chrysalis is sort of like Workcamp without the work. You reinforce existing friendships, make new friendships, sing, play and further your commitment to Christ.

What happens there? It’s best if you ask those who went last year and are planning on going again this year. But I’ll try to tell you what I know based on my experiences

Like I said earlier, it is somewhat like Workcamp but believe me the accommodations and food are much better. It is held at the Sandy Cove Retreat Center north of Baltimore. The rooms you stay in are like what you would find in a nice hotel with two queen size beds. The meals are served buffet style in a restaurant setting. I guess what I am trying to say is it is a really nice place. It is also located on the water with some beautiful sunrise views.

The program is set up around small groups like Workcamp where you are with other youth from other churches. By the way, Chrysalis is sponsored by the Washington Lutheran Synod so all the 400 or so youth that attend are from Baltimore/DC area Lutheran churches. Anyway, last year the small groups met once Friday night, a few times Saturday and once Sunday morning. The rest of the time we all gathered in the large auditorium for fellowship and singing. And like workcamp there is some free time. The small groups do activities or hold discussions exploring your faith. During the large group gatherings, a praise band made up of youth from the attending churches performed. They were amazingly good. In fact, you can audition for the band. Let me know if you are interested, and I will get you the information. I suspect rehearsals would start in September. On Sunday morning, we had a contemporary service that was pretty cool.

We leave around noon to head back home but everyone stops at the first rest area on I-95 where you get to meet up one last time with the friends you made at Chrysalis.

That's it in a nut shell.  I hope you all can make it.  Give it one try and see how it goes.  Take Care, Craig.
