Items to Bring:
Air mattress
Sleeping bag and pillow (small pillow for Sr. High)
Flashlight
Hat or visor
Insect repellent
Sunscreen
Wash kit including soap and shampoo
Bath towels and shower shoes
Swimsuit
Laundry bag (your work clothes will smell)
Poncho or raincoat
Sturdy shoes or work boots
Working shorts or long jeans (Two pairs for working)
Working shirts (they will get dirty and/or paint on them)
Casual clothes for non-working hours e.g. evening program or free time

Additional lessons learned from prior workcamps are below:

Bring something comfortable to sleep on such as an air mattress, soft pad, or cot. Remember you will be sleeping on classroom floors.

Bring spending money for souvenirs such as workcamp shirts and hats, and unanticipated costs. Sr. High workcampers also need money for meals to/from Maine.

Regarding what to wear, remember you are representing Christ the King. Don’t bring shirts that have pictures, logos, wording that wouldn’t be appropriate for church workcamp. Also, for the girls, please do not bring spaghetti strap shirts. This was a problem in past years. For during the day work, you should bring t-shirts that you wouldn’t mind throwing away. This is particularly true for those assigned painting jobs.

Remember you will have group showers like any Middle/High School. Bring one or two towels, swim suit and shower sandals. Personal hygene items (soap,shampoo,deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.)

Put your tools in a small fishing tackle box or plastic container. Helpful hint: Label all items with return address labels.

Please don't bring anything that you would be concerned about losing because there is no secure place to keep things either in the school or in the vans we are taking. WorkCamp does not allow electronic equipment such as CD Players, Radios, Tape Players, etc.

Tools to Bring:
Bring what you are comfortable working with but as a minimum each youth should bring:
Caulking gun
Adjustable wrench
Hammer
Masking tape (1 roll) (only Elizabeth City)
Paint roller covers (3 per person) (only Elizabeth City)
Paint scraper and/or wire brush
Safety goggles
Small, medium, or large paintbrush (only Elizabeth City)
Standard screwdriver
Work gloves
The church will provide other items such as paint rollers, paint trays, masking tape, & drop cloths.
Adults with medium or more experience in certain areas such as carpentry should bring the typical tools they use e.g. power tools, framing square, tape measure, level, etc....

Financial Responsibility:
The registration fee is $399. Each workcamper is responsible for a $75 deposit. The youth will raise money via the annual pledge drive and other events to offset part of the balance. Last year workcampers were required to pay an additional $110 after fundraising. Also, if you elect not to go to work camp within 60 days prior to the start date, you will be responsible for the entire $399 provided the spot is not filled by another youth.
